Previous FBI chief James the ex-FBI chief has denied the charges to making false statements to US legislators and impeding a lawmaking procedure.

The former director's lawyer filed the response representing him in a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday.

His attorney announced he would try to have the proceedings terminated for several causes including that his client, a opponent of former President Trump, was being targeted.

Mr Comey was indicted shortly after Donald Trump pressured his chief prosecutor to take action against him.

Court Developments

At the proceedings on mid-week, the defense counsel Mr Fitzgerald advised the judge they aimed to present various legal requests to terminate the case before a court case, stating the legal action was spiteful and that a US attorney was unlawfully appointed to assume control of the proceedings.

The former director's case was first managed by Erik Siebert, who left his position under influence from Donald Trump after his investigation into a different opponent - the New York official - was unable to initiate prosecution.

Judicial Environment

Mr Comey seemed in optimistic frame of mind as he came into the legal venue on Wednesday, speaking with his legal team and sharing humor. He was joined by his partner, Patrice Failor and offspring Maureen, a government attorney who the previous administration terminated.

Upon hearing to the magistrate state his constitutional guarantees and the pair of allegations against him in the courtroom on Wednesday, the defendant was questioned if he grasped the accusations.

"Yes your honour. Thank you very much," he stated to the court.

Historical Information

James Comey was the head of the FBI from 2013 to 2017 and was fired about four months into Trump's first term as national leader. At the moment, the director was overseeing an probe into Russian election interference and whether there were any links between the Russian government and the election effort.

Throughout his leadership, the director caused a negative reaction from Democrats when he announced just days before the 2016 presidential election that he was examining Democratic candidate Clinton's use of a private email server. Indictments against Clinton were not pursued, resulting in criticism from the Republican party as well.

Current Allegations

Prosecutors allege Mr Comey provided false information to the legislature during a congressional hearing in recent years when he was being examined about both the email probe as well as the foreign influence inquiry. They say he provided false information to the upper house by saying he had not authorized a person at the agency to disclose to media organizations information about the government examinations.

Government lawyers also charge Mr Comey of "wrongfully trying to affect, block and slow" the committee by making false statements to it.

Public Statements

Via social media James Comey published to his online platform after he was accused, he said he was wrongly accused and alleged the former president of conducting himself like a "tyrant".

"My family and I have understood for a long time that there are ramifications to opposing the former president," he said. "We choose not to live on our knees."
"I am not guilty," he continued. "Therefore proceed with a legal proceeding."

These allegations against James Comey emerged after Donald Trump posted on digital channels insisting on his attorney general, Pam Bondi, take legal action against the former director and others.
